What Sparked This?

This project was part of my Data Analytics elective, aimed at giving us a foundation in how analytics is applied across industries. We were asked to choose any analytics-based research paper, break it down, and present our understanding, focusing on the methodology, applications, and insights.

I chose the paper “Leveraging Workforce Analytics for Supply Chain Efficiency: A Review of HR Data-Driven Practices”  published in the International Journal of Applied Research in Social Sciences (April 2024, Vol. 6, Issue 4) authored by Olufunke Olawale (NHS Lothian, UK) Funmilayo Aribidesi Ajayi (Gelose Marine Services, Nigeria) Chioma Ann Udeh (Independent Researcher, Nigeria) Opeyemi Abayomi Odejide (Independent Researcher, Canada). It connected two areas I’m deeply interested in, people-centric data and systemic efficiency. It offered a fresh perspective on how HR analytics doesn't just impact internal operations, but can actually influence wider logistical outcomes.

What I Explored

The paper outlined how organizations are increasingly using HR datasets, from employee performance to training metrics, to optimize supply chain operations.


Here’s what I took away:

  • Types of Analytics Used: Descriptive and predictive analytics using HRIS systems to uncover workforce trends.

  • Impact on Supply Chain: Workforce productivity and skill alignment were shown to have direct impact on delivery timelines and cost efficiency.

  • Research Methods: The paper was a qualitative review synthesizing multiple case studies and prior research to build a framework.

  • Key Insights: Cross-functional data integration (HR + SCM) leads to better forecasting, risk management, and workforce planning.

 

This helped me understand how data analytics isn’t just technical—it’s strategic. The link between human capital and system flow became clearer through this paper.
