Email List Segmentation with Constant Contact for Targeted Skincare Campaigns

Used Constant Contact to segment an email list based on geography and birthdays to enable two personalized skincare campaigns. Segments were built to promote a hydrating line to dry-climate residents and deliver birthday discounts to April-born subscribers.

Project Overview

Clean and Bright Skincare is preparing two email marketing campaigns. The campaigns will focus on a new hydrating product line and a birthday discount. As the digital marketing coordinator, I had to upload a subscriber list to Constant Contact and create two segments based on geography and demographic information.

Campaign 1: Hydrating Products for Dry Skin

Objective: Promote a new hydrating product line designed for people with dry skin living in arid climates.
Target Segment: Subscribers living in the Southwest United States (Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, and Utah).

Campaign 2: Birthday Discount

Objective: Offer a 15% discount to customers during their birthday month.
Target Segment: Subscribers with birthdays in April.

Step 1: Create a Constant Contact Account

I signed up for a free account, verified my email, and logged in.

Step 2: Upload the Contact List

I uploaded the provided contact list by going to "Contacts," selecting "Add Contacts," and uploading the spreadsheet.

Step 3: Match and Create Custom Fields

I matched the fields and created a custom field called "Age Range" for unmatched data.

Step 4: Rename the Contact List

I renamed the list to categorize it as Clean and Bright Skincare subscribers.

Step 5: Create the First Segment

I created a segment called “People who live in the Southwest United States” and filtered it by the relevant states.

Step 6: Create the Second Segment

I created another segment for “People with April birthdays” by filtering for the birthday month.

Step 7: Save

I reviewed and saved both segments.

Key Insights

  1. Relevance Drives Results: Segmenting by climate and personal milestones (birthdays) allowed for personalized and timely campaign messaging.

  2. Tool Mastery: Gained hands-on experience navigating Constant Contact’s segmentation features, including custom fields and multi-condition filters.

  3. Clean Data = Actionable Data: Matching fields and organizing lists improved database usability and long-term campaign planning.
